Did you know that Khloe Kardashian named a legal guardian for her daughter True before True was even born? Khloe said that she had observed Kim’s parenting style, and she thought that Kim and Khloe had more similar parenting styles than Khloe and Kourtney did. During the post-episode interview, Kourtney said that Khloe would be changing her guardian nomination back to Kourtney in the future.

Khloe did the right thing when choosing a guardian. She forgot about family ties. She forgot about making people happy.  Khloe focused on what is essential – keeping her daughter safe. She focused on having her daughter raised in a loving household. Moreover, she focused on a person who has a similar parenting style. 

Khloe felt that her sister Kim was the person who most exemplified her parenting style. So, Khloe chose Kim.  

Why Pick a Guardian

A guardian for your child is a person whom you nominate to be legally responsible for your child. You guardian takes care of your child just as if they were your child’s parent. They provide for their physical needs of food, clothing, and shelter. Especially good guardians will also be able to provide for your child’s emotional needs of love and support.

If something were to happen to you – for example, you are in a bad accident and are hospitalized for an extended period – your nominated guardian would be able to ensure that your child as a warm, safe, and loving place to call home while you get better.

If something worse were to happen to you – for example, if you died, your nominated guardian would be able to provide your child with a safe, loving place where you know that you child will be raised in the same way you would want them to be raised.

Khloe Chose a Guardian for her Unborn Baby Girl

It’s highly unusual to select a guardian for an unborn child, but Khloe had the benefit of being an aunt and seeing Kim and Kourtney pick guardians for their children, so she understood and appreciated the importance of ensuring her unborn daughter would always be safe.

You don’t have to wait for your child to be born to name a guardian for your child. However, as your parenting style develops and as your children develop, you will likely want to revisit whom you have nominated as a guardian.

Picking Guardians for Your Kids

When selecting a guardian for your child, many parents common to choose their parent; after all, they already know the ropes, right? Except that in choosing your parent, you forget that they’re another twenty to forty years older than you. Can you really be sure that your mother or father will be around when you need them most? No, you can’t.

When making this difficult decision, you’ll want to evaluate who in your circle of friends and family are close to you in age and who most exemplifies the parenting style that you want to have for your child.
